OUR BLUEPRINT FOR IMPACT

The BIG IDEA: Community Strength Drives System Change

Vijana Kesho’s Theory of Change (ToC) is the strategic blueprint guiding every program, partnership, and investment. It maps our path from local, community-based action to sustainable systems change across Tanzania.

Our core belief, the BIG IDEA, is that by leveraging community strengths, we can achieve systemic transformation. We unite families, youths, schools, and essential services with shared data and a codified approach to unlock safe, healthy, and thriving futures for all marginalized children and youth.

One
The Problem and Vision
In Tanzania, millions of children and youth struggle with unmet wellbeing needs, leaving them vulnerable, excluded, and unable to realize their full potential.
From vulnerability to possibility for every child and youth, with dignity, opportunity, and voice.
Vijana Kesho is a coalition-driven organization that mobilizes local strengths so that every marginalized child and youth has a chance to thrive.
Two
The Pathway to Change: From Action to Outcomes

Our ToC outlines a clear progression from the resources we deploy (Inputs) to the long-term changes we aim to achieve (Long Term Outcomes):

STEPSFocus AreaDescription
INPUTSResourcesWe invest in skilled staff (mentors, facilitators, health professionals), safe spaces (community hubs, shelters), digital tools (internet access, e-learning), and philanthropic funding.
THE WORK (PARTNERS & BEHAVIOURS)ActionWe coordinate action with Government, Civil Society, Community Structures, and Academia to drive specific, measurable behaviors. These include youth participating in safe spaces, practicing healthy behaviors and help-seeking, and local leaders co-leading norm-change campaigns.
SHORT TERM OUTCOMESImmediate ResultCommunity social action strengthens positive relationships at home and school, builds belonging, and normalizes early help-seeking among children, youths, and families.
LONG TERM OUTCOMESSystemic Change1. Coordinate and Codify Action: Three district coalitions institutionalized in official work plans, with two youth wellbeing policies adopted per district. 2. Normalize Help-Seeking: In participating schools, 70% of students can map clear help pathways. 3. Build Safe Digitality: 100 AI Safety Champions currently judge “help versus harm” scenarios.
VISION & PATHWAYSLasting ImpactThis leads to a unified wellbeing system by 2030 that proactively addresses problems early, unlocking safe, healthy, thriving futures across generations.
Three
Sustainability and Scale

Our pathway to change prioritizes working within government systems and maintaining a long-term community presence. This approach—combined with partnered scale through non-profits and youth leadership—is designed to permanently shift norms, budgets, and decision power, ensuring progress is affordable, owned locally, and lasting.

By following this robust Theory of Change, Vijana Kesho ensures every action contributes to a fundamental and positive shift in the lives of Tanzanian youth.
